Matilda Pillow Cover
It only makes sense that one of the greatest heroines in literature loves to read.
Here she is, in one of our favorite illustrations from Roald Dahl’s glorious Matilda, surrounded by piles of the precious books through which “She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.”
The pillow cover, which we have acquired from the Roald Dahl Museum, is perfect for the Matilda fans and a great way to introduce the book to younger readers. As the museum has commented, “the colourful pink cushion is great to cuddle whilst reading or listening to stories." The fabric is a sturdy but comfortable 100% soft cotton. The back of the cover is printed with a cheerful lavender/white/blue stripe.
The Matilda cushion cover, paired with our Time Spent Reading Is Never Wasted Mug, also decorated with a Quentin Blake illustration, would make an unforgettable gift.
Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was the author of many children’s books, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, and James and the Giant Peach.
Sir Quentin Blake (1932- ) is an English illustrator. His most well-known collaboration with an author was with Roald Dahl, for whom he illustrated 18 books.
“Blake is beyond brilliant. He is anarchic, moral, infinitely subversive, sometimes vicious, social acute, sparse when he has to be, exuberantly lavish in the details when he feels like it. He can tell wonderful stories without a single word, but his partnership with Roald Dahl was made in heaven. Or somewhere. The diabolic ingenuity of Dahl came into its own only when he wrote for children. In conjunction with Blake, there was a kind of alchemy. I’ve never met a child who didn’t love Quentin Blake.”—Melanie McDonagh, Daily Telegraph
