This tiny handmade letterpress book, entitled “Cheerful Thoughts, For the Robust, the Ragged, and the Recuperating” was originally conceived as an alternative to the bland Get Well cards that somehow don’t seem to make anyone actually feel better. This does. A collaborative project among an editor, artist, and printer, it is filled with more than 80 intelligent and humorous quotes.

Each book comes with an ivory envelope, letterpress imprinted on the front with this quote: “I have sought for happiness everywhere but I have found it nowhere except in a little corner with a little book.” Thomas à Kempis (1380-1471). With original end papers and cover designs, the book is a diminutive work of art. Made in New England.  A selection of the quotes:

Every cloud engenders not a storm.—Shakespeare

Now I am beginning to live a little, and feel less like a sick oyster at low tide.—Louisa May Alcott

I enjoy convalescence. It is the part that makes the illness worthwhile.—George Bernard Shaw

Inside myself is a place where I live all alone and that’s where you renew your springs that never dry up.—Pearl Buck

I like living, I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.—Agatha Christie

Fall seven times, stand up eight.—Japanese proverb

Never give way to melancholy; resist it steadily, for the habit will encroach.—Sydney Smith

One 5" x 3.5” booklet with letterpress printed envelope. Made in New England.
