Literary Charades is a compact and portable game for parties, book clubs, family gatherings, or any occasion with readers in attendance.
The dapper box is filled with 140 cards, each printed with five book genres: Classics, Bestsellers, Nonfiction, Book to Film, and Children's Books. Choose a category and then act out the title—without speaking a word—for your team to guess.
How to play:
Divide players into teams. A chosen player from each team mimes one of the titles using gestures only. The player may act out the title as a whole or as individual words. The remaining players on the team have 3 minutes to guess the title and win 2 points. If they cannot guess in time, the other team has a chance to answer and win 1 point. The next player is chosen to act a title out for their team and begins the round by drawing a new card. Teams can decide on a specific category in advance of each round (for example, families with young readers may choose all Children’s Books) or play all five categories every round.
Examples of titles on individual cards included in the deck:
The Bell Jar; Things Fall Apart; Profiles in Courage; The World According to Garp; Frog and Toad are Friends.
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings; Olive, Again; Kitchen Confidential; Jurassic Park; The Rabbit Listened.
Lonesome Dove; A Thousand Acres; Long Walk to Freedom; Tipping the Velvet; A Wrinkle in Time.
The first team to gain 10 points (or the team with the highest score in 15 minutes) wins.
