Retirement & Growing Older Little Book and Envelope

  • $9.25

According to the compilers’ introduction, this tiny handmade letterpress book, subtitled “Here I come, ready or not”  had its beginnings as a present given to a friend named Gerry “who started talking retirement while still in his prime. We called the collection 'Gerry-atrics,' and it grew as other 'youngsters’ of our acquaintance suddenly started talking about hanging it up…These pages contain some thoughts going back a couple of thousand years, others are relatively newborn; in tone they range from dyspeptic to confidently hopeful. We hope you find something sympathetic on at least every other page. If not, please check your pulse—or ours.”

A collaborative project among an editor, artist, and printer, it is filled with more than 80 intelligent and humorous quotes. Each book comes with an ivory envelope, letterpress imprinted on the front with this quote: “I have sought for happiness everywhere but I have found it nowhere except in a little corner with a little book.” Thomas à Kempis (1380-1471). With original end papers and cover designs, the book is a diminutive work of art.
