Vintage Typewriter Wrapping Paper

  • $9.95

This unusual gift wrap—exquisitely printed on high-quality paper— is manufactured in Italy by a printing works with lineage back to the seventeenth century. Decorated with vintage and antique typewriters (some of the models included are: Smith Premier No 3, New Franklin, Underwood Standard Portable, The Waverly, American Visible, Underwood No 5, Molle, The International, Jackson, Rem-Blick, Crandall, Hammond Multiplex Folding, Noiseless, Corona Special, Sholes, Lambert, Yost, The Chicago, American Visible), these early machines are delightfully quirky in design and construction. The concept of personal typing dates back to the early eighteenth century, but the first typewriter proven to have worked was built by the Italian Pellegrino Turri in 1808 for his blind friend Countess Carolina Fantoni da Fivizzano.

This gift wrap is useful not only for wrapping gifts, but is heavy enough for bookbinding, scrapbooking, and other creative projects.

By the eighteenth century, the printer from which the current manufacturer is descended had more than 40 presses and employed more than 1000 workers. The typical products were prayer books, popular prints, wallpapers and book binding papers, which were distributed by itinerant salesmen throughout Europe, in Russia and even America. The printer is a family-owned company, still based in Bassano, and still adhering to the centuries-old standards of quality.

Two sheets, each measuring 19.5" x 27.5", with images printed on a creamy background.
