The 2027 edition of this annual favorite features David Levine classics drawn exclusively for The New York Review of Books.

We’ve returned to our previous 12.5" x 9.5" wall format with large date blocks. This handsome layout makes the calendar ideal for recording notes and appointments.

The 2027 calendar is inspired by Walt Whitman’s rallying cry for individual and collective liberty: “Resist much, obey little.” The writers, artists, and activists featured in this year’s calendar—including Nelson Mandela, Simone de Beauvoir, Fang Lizhi, Rachel Carson, Václav Havel, and more—reflect the spirit of Whitman’s stirring quote.

With every calendar purchased, you’ll also receive our custom-made “RESIST MUCH, OBEY LITTLE” Pin, valued at $12.95.

The enamel pin, available exclusively from us, is stamped with the words of Walt Whitman: “Resist much, obey little.” The poem in which the line appears, “Caution,” was first published as one of the “Messenger Leaves” in the 1860 edition of Leaves of Grass. The poem was later retitled “To the States.”

The pin is 1.25" across by 2" tall and made of brass with a black nickel finish. It features brick red flags with white writing.

Shipping is FREE within the contiguous US. At just $17.95 each, why not order one calendar for yourself and several for your friends?

For over forty years, David Levine’s brilliant drawings illustrated and illuminated New York Review articles. John Updike, who was one of the artist’s frequent subjects, paid tribute to Levine: “In a confusing time, he bears witness. In a shoddy time, he does good work. Here he is.”
