Brontë Sisters Holiday Cards

  • $28.95

British artist Amanda White has produced a series of notecards and holiday cards featuring her cut paper collages of historic houses of writers and poets. On the back of each card is printed a brief essay relating the dates the author lived in the house, what works were created there, and other information about the location, including what he or she loved about the setting and how it inspired creativity.  The entire descriptions from the back of each card can be read below.

Winter Foxes, Haworth Parsonage

Haworth Parsonage in Yorkshire was the home of the Brontë sisters: Charlotte, Emily and Anne. The extraordinary siblings were responsible for creating such classics as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, powerful stories which have cast their spell over generations of readers. Snowed in and unable to walk over their beloved moors, here we see the sisters keeping watch at the windows while a family of foxes pass by.

Season's Greetings written inside.

Haworth Winter

Their names are forever linked to the wild sweep of the landscape surrounding their home: the Brontë sisters delighted in walking the lonely moors in all weathers, come rain, shine — or snow. Here we see them at the close of a winter’s day, heading in the direction of home and the local church, St Michael and All Angels, where their father was vicar for more than four decades. The ancient church was largely rebuilt, save for most of the tower, some years after the deaths of the Rev Patrick Brontë and his family. The foundation stone of the building we see today was laid on Christmas Day, 1879.
