“I would rather have nothing but tea.”—Jane Austen, Mansfield Park
Since the seventeenth century, the Brown Betty has taken its rightful place as a time-honored design icon widely regarded as producing the perfect brew. We have paired the Brown Betty with two beautiful English tea tins—rectangular, with a hinged lid—containing forty tea bags of English Afternoon Tea, and forty tea bags of English Breakfast Tea, blended by a UK tea merchant.
The superior tea made in a Brown Betty is credited to the shape of the pot, which causes the tea leaves to be gently swirled around as the boiling water is added, and the terracotta clay and Rockingham brown glaze, which coddle the brew as the tea leaves steep. These pots also keep the water hotter for longer.
The Brown Bettys were first made in Stoke-on-Kent by pottery makers James and William Wedgwood. The British company that makes these uses the original recipe, from 1695.
The two-cup pot has a capacity of 22 ounces/1 pint—more than three cups of tea—ideal for that extra top-up to a morning cuppa.
English Afternoon Tin:Inspired by the iconic Arts & Crafts movement that defined the Victorian age, our Sunflower tea tin embodies the movement’s core values of beauty, artistry, and functionality. This tin features intricate floral designs that pay homage to the visionary work of pioneering artists like John Ruskin and William Morris. Whether you’re a lover of history, an avid tea drinker, or simply appreciate fine design, this tea tin is a must-have that embodies the charm and sophistication of Victorian Britain.
English Breakfast Tin:This tin is decorated with images of the Song Thrush, which, as the name suggests, has a distinctive musical call. The bird frequently appears in the writing of many Great British novelists and poets; Robert Browning, Thomas Hardy, and William Wordsworth were all inspired by regular sightings of the bird in the English countryside.
New England Teas has created this forty-tea-bag tin to honor the original early bird and its morning call. This fine English Breakfast tea has been carefully blended to produce a full refreshing flavor to enjoy at any time of the day.
