The illustrations of lucky charms on this decorative enamel tray are from a vintage French postcard. Some of the symbols and their meanings are well-known (anchor=hope, magnet=wealth, heart=love) but others are less obvious (the coccinelle, or ladybug, regarded by farmers in ancient Europe as guardians of crops, sent by the divine intervention of Our Lady, thus “ladybug”).
