The follow-up to My First Shapes, Opposites with Frank Lloyd Wright teaches young children basic concepts of opposites while offering an interactive introduction to one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century.
Designed in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Collection, and drawing on the architect's famous works, colorful spreads illustrate Round and Pointy, City and Nature, and more. Spring and Fall are illustrated by designs the architect made for stained glass; Outside and Inside are shown by drawings of the exterior and interior of Fallingwater; Near and Far are depicted by the Avery Coonley Playhouse observed from close up and from a distance.
The book also has several special interactive features: Hard and Soft are depicted by two chairs designed by the architect, one with a touch’n’feel fabric cushion; Small and Tall are conveyed by a short building next to a fold-out skyscraper; and a cupboard’s doors demonstrate Open and Closed.
Pages at the back of the book identify the works of Wright that are featured in it, and the last two pages have a short biography and two photographs of the architect, Young and Old. A thoughtfully conceived and well-designed book.
