Embrace the surreal and the sublimely comfortable with these well-made Italian socks, featuring the famous pipe depicted in Rene Magritte’s 1929 painting The Treachery of Images, along with the painting’s equally famous caption: “Ceci n'est pas une pipe” (in French, “this is not a pipe”).
Magritte (Belgian, 1898–1967) is known for his arresting and thought-provoking imagery, which often depicts familiar objects outside their expected contexts. Before he was able to paint full-time, he worked in a wallpaper factory and for an advertising agency, both of which influenced the development of his idiosyncratic style. The Treachery of Images is widely considered among the most important works of the Surrealist movement.
The European company that makes these socks is devoted to making products of the highest quality. As they explain, “We work with 200-needle machines that knit the motifs directly into each sock and optimize the results to ensure a high level of detail in each work of art.”
