The deep greens and blues of this scarf portray the lush and luminous water lily pond that so captivated Claude Monet. The artist moved to Giverny in 1883, and ten years later, started designing the pond. According to the National Gallery of Art:

“He encircled the basin with a vivacious arrangement of flowers, trees, and bushes, and the next year filled it with water lilies. He added a Japanese-style wooden bridge in 1895, then a few years later started to paint the pond and its water lilies—and never stopped, making them the obsessive focus of his intensely searching work for the next quarter century.

In 1924 he wrote, “It took me a long time to understand my water lilies… I grew them without thinking of painting them… And then, all of a sudden, I had the revelation of the enchantment of my pond. I took up my palette.

The scarf is beautifully made—the hems of the scarf are hand-rolled and sewn, not machine-stitched. Because it is silk chiffon, it can easily be tied in a variety of ways; it is large enough to wear as a light shawl.

Please note: We have limited quantities of these scarves; if you are interested, please order sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Dimensions: 71" x 22". Dry clean only. Comes in a box suitable for gifting, along with a card detailing the origins of the image on the scarf.
