The covers of these hardcover notebooks are reproductions of two of seven of Virginia Woolf's  notebooks in which she drafted the 1931 novel The Waves, considered among her best and most experimental works. Today, the notebooks are a part of The New York Public Library’s Henry W. and Albert A. Berg Collection of English and American Literature.

The notebooks are beautifully detailed, with a spine of buckram bookbinding cloth, a ribbon marker, a curved memento pocket incorporated into the back cover, and the lion symbol of the NYPL embossed on the spine.  Historical and credit information is detailed in each endpaper of the notebook.

Each notebook contains 144 lined pages. The paper in each notebook is acid-free FSC-certified and the binding boards are crafted from 100% recycled material. The notebooks are Symth sewn, the highest-quality binding available. Smyth sewn refers to a classic style of bookbinding in which the signatures are sewn together and further reinforced with adhesive and fabric backing.

A modernist and feminist pioneer, Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) carved out new territory for artists, particularly women writers. She wrote with sensitivity and insight about the confusion, mystery and uncertainty of everyday life. Part of Woolf’s innovation was to reject traditional plots in favor of explorations of the inner lives of her characters. Her stream-of-consciousness narratives brought sharp yet fleeting glimpses into truths of gender relations, psychology and the power of the poetic perspective.
